Is Nitrous Oxide safe?

Yes! Nitrous oxide is one of the safest sedatives available. As you breathe in nitrous oxide, you’ll start to feel light, peaceful, and maybe even a little giggly. Many patients describe the sensation as feeling "floaty" or "dream-like." You’ll stay fully awake, able to talk and respond to your dentist, but your worries and discomfort will melt away. It’s gentle enough for both children and adults, and because the effects wear off quickly, you can even drive yourself home after your appointment. Our team carefully monitors the dosage to ensure you feel comfortable and safe throughout your procedure.

Nitrous oxide is generally NOT recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. If dental treatment is necessary, alternative methods of pain or anxiety management may be suggested.

If dental visits make you nervous, nitrous oxide can make a big difference. It helps you:

  • Relax without being put to sleep
  • Feel less anxious about the sights and sounds of dental tools
  • Get through longer or more complex treatments comfortably
  • Leave the office feeling calm and ready to carry on with your day

At our office, we believe that dental care should never be stressful. With nitrous oxide, you can enjoy a more pleasant experience and keep your smile healthy without the worry.
